Each Green Corner has been taking huge strides. We’ve been planning and building new program projects, tending to gardens at our partner school sites and for our senior garden stewards, growing seedlings to plant at our project sites, and donating hundreds of pounds of produce to our nonprofit food distribution partner, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. These amazing feats would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.

With our volunteer features we want to introduce and highlight our wonderful volunteers and the work that they do with EGC! Without further ado, meet our lovely volunteer Junko!

Junko started volunteering with Each Green Corner after hearing about the organization through the Neighbors Helping Neighbors newsletter. EGC was a perfect fit as she was looking for an in-person volunteer opportunity that allowed her to volunteer with her kids. She’s been involved with community days at our Living Campus sites, Arroyo and Arundel, and recently started volunteering as part of the core team with the Senior Garden Program at the A.P. site!

She remarked that it’s amazing to beautify spaces through gardening, make connections with seniors living in their homes, and be able to grow food for people who need it through her time volunteering with EGC. According to Junko, “People want something to do and be part of the solution.” Whether that be by weeding one of EGC’s project sites or watering a Senior Garden Steward’s backyard, every action is a wonderful contribution to community beautification and food security efforts.

Each Green Corner is so appreciative of the great work Junko and her daughters do when they volunteer with us. Thank you, we appreciate you!
